Dereham Theatre Company (formerly Dereham Operatic Society) is a charitable Trust and was formed in 1948 to offer the local community education and enlightenment in amateur dramatic arts. A very grand way of saying that we were formed to entertain the people of Dereham and Norfolk!

Our Shakespearian motto "Mere folk who give distraction are we" comes from Cole Porter's musical "Kiss Me Kate", which we first performed in 1970, and is based upon one of William Shakespeare's most famous plays "The Taming of the Shrew".

We stage three productions a year (not including the productions of our youth group) including a major musical in the autumn, a pantomime over the Christmas period and a play in the spring. There is something for everyone!

If you are looking to join one of the premier operatic and dramatic societies in Norfolk as either a performer (we actively encourage all whatever your ability or experience, whether you are a singer, an actor, dancer, or just enjoy being on stage), backstage helper, front of house staff or just looking to purchase some tickets for our next show ........ you need look no further; Welcome to our website.

Next Play Reading

Our next Play Reading is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 5th June, 7:30pm in The Studio with the following reading schedued for Wednesday 19th June (subject to the Green Room in the Studio being available). However please check back here regularly in case details have to change.

We also have the following waiting in the wings to enjoy over the next few sessions;

Ayckbourn's "Family Circles" - "We all marry the wrong people..." announces Edward Gray and, from looking at his three daughters and their unsuitable partners, it's difficult to disagree!.

Orton's "Loot" - a fast-paced and fun-filled farce.

DTCo Summer BBQ 2013

Technophile Wanted!

We are still looking to recruit from our membership a Shadow Website Editor to be trained in and assist with the ongoing task of keeping our website and Facebook Page up-to-date.

No advanced IT knowledge is required (if you know the basics of programs like Microsoft Word then we can easily teach you the rest), however regular access to the Internet via a PC together with lots of enthusiasm are must-have requirements!

Any prospective volunteers please just contact a member of the Committee.
